Meet your instructor

Welcome to my page! I’m a certified vocal coach in Vancouver, and I’ve been teaching professional singers and recreational singers for more than six years now. I attended University of Victoria School of Music, and I’m  gained Level 3 Certified IVA Instructor in 2020. I was also trained in the Speech Level Singing technique, which was created by Seth Riggs, who taught most of the celebrities in his time, such as Michael Jackson and Madonna.

I have taught more than 300 students, including professional singers, recording artists, actors, anime singers, and choir soloists. My studio was established in Vancouver in 2013, and since then, I’ve been teaching students in Vancouver and all over the world through Skype.

Aside from being a teacher, I’m a singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist of the band Banana Bread. My band has performed at various local festivals, such as the Richmond World Festival and the Powell Street Festival.

Also, I’m used to be a member of  YVR POP Choir. I had performed at the Lincoln Center in New York with the choir, led by the music director of Pitch Perfect, Deke Sharon. I also had an honor to promote and sing for the Disney movie The Lion King through them, doing flash mobs in various places in Vancouver with Disney ambassadors.

Ko was personally selected by Maestro, Spencer Welch to work as an associate teacher at Spencer Welch Vocal Studio since 2016. Here is the testimonial Video from Spencer Welch himself.

I was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, until the age of 16 and moved to Victoria, BC, to attend high school. I attended Music school of the University of Victoria and I was blessed with a chance to become the lead singer in the indie band “Masterpiece.”

However, being in that band had made me realized how complex the world of singing really was and how limited my vocal ability was at the time.

I looked for a lot of voice teachers around the world to get help because I was really desperate. I had tried out many of voice teachers but non of them could give me the correct guidances. One of the classical teachers had even told me that I can’t sing high notes because my instrument was made that way.

I moved to Vancouver, BC when I was 23 and it was a turning point to meet one of the principal Master Teachers of Institute for Vocal Advancement in Vancouver. After taking couple of lessons from him, I had a major break through in my voice and singing high strong notes got a lot easier and stronger. I had realized how amazing this technique is and started to study the concepts of vocal mechanisms in-depth through Institute for Vocal Advancement.
